What is the legacy of the woods’ deep quiet? How can an artist capture the immediacy and energy of the natural world? Preserve is a linocut series that features real and imaginary landscapes. These pieces were carved in a small East Harlem apartment and printed in a studio in midtown Manhattan. Landscapes came to feel especially relevant while commuting between these two locations and imagining a life lived all twisted up with the millions of people around you. It was my urban, industrial surroundings that made these printed landscapes feel like a refuge. They are both figments of imagination and real, wild places I’ve escaped to.

Preserve:

In your imagination, are the woods perfect and empty?
